Join us as Jeffrey Ryan, author of Blazing Ahead: Benton MacKaye, Myron Avery, and the Rivalry That Built the Appalachian Trail, weaves history and biography to bring the story of the unlikely creation of the Appalachian Trail to life. Ryan will discuss how many of the challenges faced in the 20s and 30s, when the trail was constructed, still resonate today. In addition to researching the storied trail’s archives, Ryan hiked the entire 2,100-mile trail over 28 years by hiking one section at a time, a feat that adds an extra dimension to his presentation in words and photos.
